Chris Knowles
(vocals, guitar)

A native of Kirkfield and later Lindsay, Ontario, Chris made his home in Chapleau, Ontario for seventeen years. While in the North, he was a regular entertainer at both Wakami and Ivanhoe Provincial Parks where he played with The Jim Hopper Band. Taking advantage of the geographic isolation of Chapleau, Chris was able effectively to corner and fix many an up-and-coming singer en route East or West. He brings to the band a strong knowledge of Ontario folk music and has a wonderful affinity for songs from the Ontario north and near north.

Impressed with his subtle flat-picking and great voice, Finley tempted Chris into forming a duo in the Fall of 2002. The two were the original Whiskey Dollies, and played regularly all over the region at various mid-sized venues since November, 2002.

In Chapleau, Chris could regularly be found in the kitchens of many a house party, belting out Ontario roots music. Since moving to Ottawa in 1995, Chris has played and recorded with Trevor Rostek and is a founding member of the Whiskey Dollies. A recently retired high school teacher, he and his wife, Brenda, have five children.
